First it was Vin Diesel vs. The Rock. Now, It’s Tyrese Gibson vs. The Rock? Dwayne The Rock Johnson is apparently in the middle of his second beef in as many years with his Fast and Furious cast mates.
When it was Diesel vs. Rock we never really got the full story. This beef with Tyrese seems like nothing more than pure jealousy.
Yesterday the release of Fast and Furious 9 got delayed by a year. All indications are that delay was largely in part to facilitate the crazy busy schedule of Johnson. When the news broke Tyrese had the following comments:
Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post.
The Fast and The Furious franchise made a lot of money before Dwayne Johnson signed on for the fifth installment. They didn’t make Rock money. The revenue that the fifth movie brought it was almost double the revenue of the fourth movie without Johnson. The 6th, 7th and 8th installment all made even more money than that.
Maybe instead of chastising Johnson, Gibson and the rest of the Furious cast should be kissing his ass!! There is no market for a Tyrese Gibson on starring on his own. He must be a part of an ensemble cast like Furious. We’ll let me rephrase that. There is not market for a movie starring Tyrese Gibson if you want it to make money.
Anything the Rock does makes money. Anything. GI Joe made money. San Andreas made money. Even Baywatch made money despite it being universally panned.
Dwayne Johnson in a film means it makes money. Tyrese Gibson doesn’t. The studio knows this that’s why they are willing to wait for Johnson to make the movie. I’d be willing to bet that if Tyrese had a scheduling conflict they wouldn’t do the same.
Wait a second though Tyrese doesn’t have a scheduling conflict because he lives off the Fast and Furious franchise. Name the last movie that Tyrese made by himself that was worth a crap? Can’t think of one? I’ll wait longer.
In the right role, Tyrese is great. He’s funny and provides comedy to a movie. He isn’t a leading man. He doesn’t make or break a movie. The Rock does.
Take Tyrese’s character Roman out of Fast and Furious 9 it still kills at the box office and makes a lot of money.
